THE PRODUCTION OF PORCELAIN ORIGINATED IN CHINA, AROUND THE YEAR 1000. OVER TIME THIS MATERIAL WAS PERFECTED BY PERSIAN AND MESOPOTAMIAN POTTERS, BRINGING THE DECORATION OF THE POTTERY WITH COBALT BLUE AS A NOVELTY. IN THE YEAR 1700 A YOUNG GERMAN ALCHEMIST, JOHANN FRIEDRICH BOTTGER, WAS FORCED BY AUGUSTUS THE STRONG TO RESEARCH THE FORMULA FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PORCELAIN AND IN 1708 HE SUCCEEDED IDENTIFYING THE INGREDIENTS THAT COMPOSED IT, WHICH ARE KAOLIN AND FELDSPAR.

THE USE OF A FLUX THAT, AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 720 AND 840, BINDS THE PIGMENTS OR METAL OXIDES PRESENT IN THE COLORS (THE RED AND BROWN COLORS ARE BASED ON IRON, THE PINKS AND THE PURPLE ON THE BASIS OF GOLD, THE BLUE BASED ON COBALT, THE YELLOWS AND GREENS BASED ON CHROMIUM), IT ALLOWS THE MELTING AND THE REACTION OF THE SOLUBLE COMPONENTS WITH SILICA TRANSFORMING THEM INTO AN INSOLVENT GLASS. THE CORRECT FUSION OF THE DYES WITH THIS BASIC SUBSTANCE OF THE FLUX DETERMINES THE DEGREE OF TONALITY OF THE COLOR OF THE SUPRAVERINE PAINTING.
IT IS THE MAGIC OF COLOR THAT IS ACCOMPLISHED.
